We want to provide an update on an exposure to COVID-19 within our Edgemere community. Today, Thursday, December 31st, we received results from our bi-weekly team member testing of team members and weekly testing of residents. We learned that one of our team members tested positive for the virus. We now have a total of eight active cases of COVID-19 among team members and persons who provide care and services to residents in our community, and they are all self-isolating at home.
We have no new resident cases of the virus. By way of recap, we have a total of 13 active cases of COVID-19 among our Edgemere residents. Nine independent living residents are self-isolating in their homes, two Plaza residents are self-isolating in their homes, and two Plaza residents are being cared for in the hospital.
Dallas County and the State of Texas continue to experience high rates of COVID-19 positive active cases. We understand that you have concerns and may have questions about COVID-19 and the current situation in our community. Please know we continue with our commitment to protect the health and safety of our residents and team members, and our team continues to be proactive in mitigating the risk of further exposure to the virus within our community.
Lifespace and Edgemere continue to follow heightened infection control guidelines from our local, state and federal agencies. We highly encourage residents to only leave the community for essential needs like groceries or critical medical appointments. Residents and team members are encouraged to practice social distancing and wear a mask or face covering when interacting with others in public settings. Team members are also asked to continue exercising an abundance of caution, including practicing social distancing during break and meal periods to further limit the transmissibility of this virus. Proper hand hygiene including regular handwashing and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer are essential to preventing the spread of the virus.
